Hammers Out Of League Cup
The Hammers put in a positive performance and arguably provided the majority of the attacking thrust in their quarterfinal game of the League Cup against Tottenham, seeking their first berth in the semi-finals since 2013/14, when they had also played Tottenham in the fifth round.
But different from the match on 18 December 2013, when Sam Allardyce’s Hammers, courtesy of goals from Matt Jarvis (80) and Modibo Maiga (85), came from behind to win 2-1 and proceeded to the semifinals, this time David Moyes’ team came out on the wrong end of a madcap quickfire exchange of goals midway through the first half: Steven Bergwijn side-footed the hosts ahead (29), Jarrod Bowen turned and finished neatly for the Hammers moments later (32) – and, almost immediately afterwards, Lucas Moura restored the hosts’ advantage from close range (34).
West Ham toiled and fought for a route back into the tie in a tighter second half, but came up against Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in inspired form, and ultimately could not find a second equaliser.
Hence, unfortunately David Moyes couldn’t match the League Cup quarterfinal success of his predecessors Avram Grant (2010) and “Big Sam” (2013) and still has to wait for his first semifinal with the Irons. With his former club Everton, the Scotsman has made it to a cup final once: in 2009 the Toffees were runners-up in the FA Cup, losing 1-2 to Chelsea in the final.

Best Place To Spend Christmas?
Things change quickly in these times of Corona. On 4 December, The Telegraph said that England was maybe “the best place to spend Christmas“.
Today Austria has declared UK, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands “high-risk areas” which means that from 25 December those entering Austria from these countries must be quarantined if they are not triple vaccinated and have a negative PCR test.
Merry Christmas to everyone. Stay at home and stay safe!
