Unwelcome ghost from the past
A new beginning, a fresh start – but a ghost from the past raised its ugly head: on the same day the Hammers confirmed the appointment of their new head coach, FAâs charge with betting fraud against West Hamâs PaquetĂĄ which had been looming since last September, was brought forward, and this is going to bring Lopeteguiâs and Steidtenâs plans in disarray.
It was planned to transfer the Brazilian to Man City for ÂŁ85m to boost the transfer budget, but with the allegations that PaquetĂĄ had intentionally seemed to get booked in four matches in 2022 and 2023 in order for one or more persons to profit from betting, this transfer seems highly unlikely now. The player denies the allegations and now has to respond until 3 June.
