General election polls have opened this morning. In approximately 24 hours the country will learn which MPs have been elected to parliament, which party will govern Britain and who will serve as Prime Minister.
Six weeks on from Rishi Sunak’s announcement of the vote in heavy rain in front of 10, Downing Street, party leaders have completed their final media appearances of the campaign.
Victory for Sir Keir Starmer would see Labour return to power for the first time in 14 years. Triumph for Mr Sunak would mean an unprecedented fifth term of Conservative rule.
Over the course of the campaign, major dividing lines emerged on tax, net zero policy and private education.
There was also a return to frontline politics for Nigel Farage as leader of Reform UK. Both Mr Farage and Sir Ed Davey, the Liberal Democrat leader, hope to take as many seats as possible.
