Unbeaten on the Road

Brentford 1 West Ham 1

West Ham have lost in the Carabao Cup away to Liverpool, but in the Premier League the Irons are still unbeaten on the road after having played their first three away games of the season. However, at London Stadium, the first three home games of 2024/25 have all ended in defeat.

At Brentford West Ham conceded the first goal in the very first minute of the game (with the Bees scoring with less than 60 seconds on the clock for the third PL game in succession), but then the Hammers showed character, and in the second half Tomas Soucek equalised with his second goal of the season.

In contrast to this seemingly better form on the road, the Hammers under new head coach Julen Lopetegui have lost their first three home games for the first time in their history.

West Ham have won just one of their six games in the league under the Spaniard but their performance against Brentford suggests improvements are being made.

Next Saturday newly promoted Ipswich Town, of which singer Ed Sheeran is a big fan, will be welcomed at London Stadium. Ipswich are back to the Premier League after 22 years down in the Championship and League One, and Kieran McKenna’s “Tractor Boys” are yet to win this season. That could be a golden opportunity for Lopetegui and his men to taste victory for the first time at London Stadium. With no victory since seeing off Crystal Palace on 24 August and only five points to their account, West Ham are desperate to get back to winning ways.

Then West Ham will play at Tottenham before they host Manchester Utd., a game I will watch live at the London Stadium.
