Hammers Through, Now Against Harriers

West Ham won 2-0 at the London Stadium in the third round of the FA Cup against Leeds United, courtesy to a scrappy first goal that Lanzini smashed home, and a brilliant counter attack (goal: Bowen, assist: Antonio). Now they were drawn against the lowest-ranked side left in the FA Cup.

Leeds brought a brilliant support down to Stratford. It was a good atmosphere and it was a bit of an old-fashioned cup tie in some ways.

“We just want to try and go as far as we can and do as well as we can, like we have done in all competitions”, manager David Moyes said. “The players have given it a really good go, so I can’t complain.”

The fourth round draw of the last 32 clubs left in the competition was made immediately after the tie, and West Ham got one of the two non-league clubs which have made it through to the third round: Sixth-tier Kidderminster Harriers, the lowest-ranked side left in the FA Cup have beaten Championship side Reading 2-1 at home and now are rewarded with an other home tie against West Ham!

Back in 1994, Kiddy Harriers produced their biggest cup upset, beating Birmingham City at St Andrew’s on third round day and then overcoming Preston North End in the next round at their home ground Aggborough Stadium (above) when they marched in to the last 16.

However, their run of 1993/94 ended against the Hammers when the Harriers were defeated by West Ham at home in the fifth round (1-0, goal: Lee Chapman). And this will be the case also when this season’s fourth round match is played on the first weekend in February, I‘m sure of that!

Come on you Irons!
