Nothing Better Than Football With The Family

On West Ham’s official site club captain Mark Noble, ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Leeds United, speaks of the pleasure of going to the footy together with the family and of his dream to play in a cup final with West Ham United.

As someone who grew up sneaking into the Boleyn Ground to watch his beloved Hammers in action as a boy, Noble knows just how special the feeling is of attending a live football match:

“I am told there will be thousands of thousands of young fans here on Sunday and, whether you’re a Junior Season Ticket Holder or Claret Member, attending your first game at London Stadium, or are a young Leeds supporter cheering your team on, I hope you really enjoy the day,” he enthused.

“There is nothing better than going to the football with your family and friends, so give your team a cheer, join in the songs and have a fantastic time.

It was 17 years ago this weekend that a 17-year-old Noble made his first start in a Hammers shirt in an FA Cup third round win over Norwich City at the Boleyn Ground.

Now 34 and in the 18th and final season of his illustrious career in Claret and Blue, the lifelong West Ham fan hopes not only to lead his boyhood Club out on the Sunday to play in the world’s most-famous cup competition for the final time on home turf, but also make a life-long dream come true: to play in an FA Cup final at Wembley and lifting the trophy like Bobby Moore and Billy Bonds have done.

“We’ll do our very best to get through to the fourth round and I know the lads are determined to go on another long cup run, Noble said.

Next Game On Sunday

Leeds will visit London Stadium twice within one week

Having been eliminated from the League Cup by Tottenham on 22 December in the quarter finals, West Ham now have to set their sight on the FA Cup. With two wins and seven goals (scored by Soucek, Benrahma, Noble, Vlasic, Antonio and Lanzini 2) in their last two Premier League matches the Hammers have returned to winning ways after five games without a win.

West Ham have drawn a Premier League opponent at home for their third round tie of the FA Cup: Leeds United will visit the London Stadium, and they will do that twice within eight days, first in the Cup and exactly one week later, on the following Sunday at the same time (2 p.m. GMT) in the Premier League.

The Leeds double clash will sandwich an other match at West Ham’s ground: the postponed game against Norwich will be played on Wednesday evening under the lights at London Stadium. Hence it will be a busy week at Stratford, before the Hammers are going to travel to Old Trafford to play Manchester Utd on the 22nd of January.
