Ausgleichende Gerechtigkeit?
A controversial VAR decision going against West Ham in their Premier League game vs. Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in September last year was evened out in the Hammers‘ reverse game against Chelsea at London Stadium by a lack of VAR interference on Saturday.
West Ham manager David Moyes was asked whether the referee’s decision not to award a penalty when Tomas Soucek handled the ball in the Hammers‘ box in the final minutes of the game against Chelsea (1-1), represented justice for the Maxwel Cornet goal that was incorrectly ruled out at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season. Chelsea had won that game 2-1.
“It could never be a comparison to what happened to us at Chelsea,” said Moyes, who claimed to have not seen the Soucek incident. “Ours was game-changing.”
Denis of Austrian Irons clearly saw a case of compensatory justice: „Well, finally we get something back after the awful decision last year with the Cornet goal at Stamford Bridge“, he wrote in our WhatsApp group.
Chelsea manager Graham Potter who had not yet managed the Blues back in autumn when they won under their then coach Thomas Tuchel in controversial circumstances, said he didn’t want to complain and reacted wrily to the incident: “It was a good save. You need your keeper sometimes to get you a point.”
Chelsea as well as West Ham had also cancelled a goal by the VAR because of offside.
