Moyes‘s Mission Impossible

In an article by Claret&Hugh West Ham manager David Moyes was quoted saying that West Ham “are searching for five or six wins between now and the end of the season”.

With only six games left the website calls that a “mission impossible” and point out that the Hammers would have to beat not only Crystal Palace in Saturday’s lunch time game as well as Brentford, Leeds and Leicester, but also at least one of the two Manchester clubs.
It’s a target which to many will make little sense, as a lot of West Ham fans are still just discussing if one or two wins will do to stay out of the relegation zone come the end of the season. But for the manager the aim is not only to secure Premier League survival, he wants “to get as high up the table as we possibly can“.
Claret&Hugh concludes that the manager is now as buoyant as he has been in several months and despite the 1-2 defeat by Liverpool last Wednesday he is clearly feeling ultra confident.
Well, and if we take into account that at least two more European games are awaiting the Hammers, “five or six wins between now and the end of the season” are not a distant possibility or a castle in the sky, but a plausible aim!

Considering that AZ Alkmaar stands in West Ham’s way when the Irons aim to reach the Conference League final in Prague in their second consecutive European semifinal in two years, at least one of the “five or six wins” that David Moyes longs for, has to be achieved in the two-legged encounter with the Dutch side.
Come on you Irons, make a wish come true. Impossible is nothing!

“ West Ham (15th, 34pts)
West Ham have stayed loyal to manager David Moyes despite the team’s struggles this season and a late run of form looks to be enough to edge them to safety.
The Hammers moved five points clear of the drop zone by beating Bournemouth last Sunday, but back-to-back defeats by Liverpool and Crystal Palace leave them looking nervously over their shoulders again.
The east London club could also end the season with silverware as they prepare to face Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in the Europa Conference League semi-finals next month.
West Ham boss David Moyes: “We’re not over the line yet, we have to do that and try and get the points which are required. We’re all in it and we have to do it and find the points which will get us there and I’m confident we will do.”
Still to play: 3 May Man City (a), 7 May Man Utd (h), 14 May Brentford (a), 21 May Leeds (h), 28 May Leicester (a)
