New West Ham manager Scott Parker was given a dizzyingly dramatic introduction to his new job as the Hammers fought back from a three-goal half-time deficit to claim a chaotic 3-3 Championship draw at Cardiff City.
The three time Hammer of the Year (2009-2011) is West Ham’s fourth manager since the departure of David Moyes. As a player he had famously inspired a comeback from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 at West Brom in February 2011 when a Demba Ba double and a Carlton Cole header denied West Brom victory.
Nearly sixteen years later he must again have given an inspiring half-time speech because there was a team on the pitch in the second half that showed “some incredible character”, as the new gaffer put it himself after the final whistle.

Having only met the team at Stansted Airport less than twelve hours before kickoff it must really have been a rousing speech that helped the stumbling Hammers to come back like they did, courtesy of goals from Divine Mukasa, Arne Engels and Max Kilman, all three of them assisted by skipper Jarrod Bowen with two pin-point passes and a cross into the box.
Saying that “here‘s real attacking talent” and “attacking threat” he emphasised that he had urged the team to be more dynamic, take more risks, cross balls and put bodies in the box: “There’s no point in just building, building, building,” Parker said.
On being reunited with the fans Parker said that he felt honoured and blessed to be the new West Ham manager, and promised to try everything to “get this team exactly where we all want it to be.”
Come on Scott Parker, come on you Irons!
