Greiml – leider – wie Beric 2015!
Die Geschichte wiederholte sich für Rapid. Fünf Jahre nach dem Ausscheiden in der Champions League-Quali gegen Schachtjor Donezk ist der SK Rapid heuer gegen KAA Gent gescheitert – und wieder war es in einem Auswärtsspiel ein vergebener Kopfball aus aussichtsreicher Position, der die Chance auf die Champions League zunichte machte!
Im August 2015 war es Robert Beric, der im Rückspiel gegen Schachtjor Donezk in der Nachspielzeit einen Kopfball – alleine am Fünfmeterraum stehend – danebensetzte. “Ich würde alle meine Tore in meinem Leben geben, wenn ich diesen Kopfball reingemacht hätte”, sagte Beric nachher.
Diesmal war es der Youngster Leo Greiml, der als Verteidiger in der Nachspielzeit über das gesamte Feld gesprintet war und aufgrund einer Maßflanke allein zum Kopfball kam. Ein Tor hätte zwar noch nicht unmittelbar die Qualifikation für die CL, aber das 2:2 und damit immerhin eine Verlängerung bedeutet. Die Chance auf das Playoff wäre am Leben geblieben!
Doch wie bei Beric ging auch dieser Kopfball daneben. Und so konnte sich der SK Rapid nicht für das Champions League – Playoff qualizieren und kein weiteres Drama in der letzten Quali-Runde inszenieren, sondern wird, wie auch 2005 und in bisher sechs weiteren Jahren (2009/10, 2010/11, 2012/13, 2013/14, 2015/16, 2016/17, 2018/19) in der Gruppenphase der Europa League spielen und weiter auf eine Champions League-Teilnahme warten. Mittlerweile haben die “Grün-Weißen“ seit 15 Jahren nicht an der “Königsklasse” teilgenommen; es bleibt bei den zwei Teilnahmen der Hütteldorfer in den Saisonen 1996/97, 2005/06.
Rapid-Trainer Dietmar Kühbauer zog folgendes Resümee nach der 1:2 verloren gegangenen Partie gegen Genk: „Wir fahren jetzt heim und wissen zwar, dass wir ein gutes Spiel gemacht haben, aber darum können wir uns nichts kaufen.“ Und zum unglücklichen Leo Greiml (Bild), der leider auch mit einem Elfer-Foul den Belgiern das zwischenzeitige 2:0 ermöglicht hatte, sagte der Rapid-Trainer, dass sich um den 19-jährigen Verteidiger dennoch “keiner Sorgen machen muss, er hat trotzdem eine große Zukunft vor sich.”

Bei einem Rapid-Sieg wäre es für die Wiener übrigenszu einem Wiedersehen mit dem rumänischen Trainer Mircea Lucescu gekommen: er war bei jenem bisher letzten Play-off-Antreten Rapids, bei dem Beric – wie diesmal Greiml – kein Kopfballtor erzielte, Trainer von Schachtjor Donezk gewesen. Aktuell trainert er Dynamo Kiew, das als Gegner in der letzten Qualiphase gewartet hätte. Nun spielt KAA Genk gegen Dynamo Kiew um den Einzug in die CL.
Das CL-Playoff erreichte allerdings ein Ex-Rapidler: PAOK Saloniki qualifizierte sich mit dem im heurigen Sommer zu den Griechen gewechselten früheren Rapid-Kapitän Stefan Schwab im Mittelfeld dank eines 2:1-Heimsiegs gegen Benfica Lissabon für das Playoff. Gegen den FK Krasnodar hat Schwab nun die Chance, sich erstmals für die Champions League zu qualifizieren.
Eine Chance, die Robert Beric heuer nicht mehr wahrnehmen kann – er spielt seit einem Jahr in den USA bei Chicago Fire, nachdem er nach dem Ausscheiden von Rapid in der Saison 2005/06 zu den “Grünen” von AS St. Étienne und später zum RSC Anderlecht gewechselt war. St. Étienne hatte es nicht in die Champions League geschafft, die “Violetten” von Anderlecht spielten allerdings 2017/18 in der Königsliga – jedoch ohne Beric: vier Mal saß Robert Beric auf der Bank, zwei Mal war er nicht im CL-Kader der Belgier. Anderlecht wurde Letzter in einer Gruppe mit PSG, Bayern München und Celtic Glasgow!

PL new kits 2020-21: WHU shirt ranked 4th
Ahead of the start of the new Premier League season on Saturday The Telegraph has ranked the new shirts of the twenty clubs which commence to fight for goals and points just six weeks after the end of last season.
“It’s rash to read too much into football shirts,” Thom Gibbs writes. “Fun, too. But there’s a clear and important message being delivered by this year’s slate of new Premier League kits: everything is broken.”
“How else to explain this sudden outbreak of violent graphic design, the likes of which hasn’t been seen since Jorge Campos was making his own goalkeeper shirts with crayons, highlighters and old pieces of felt?”

Last Night of the Proms, first night of football
West Ham United’s opening game of the 2020/21 season, originally scheduled to take place on Saturday at 3pm, has been moved to an 8pm kick off. The match will now collide with the famous Last Night of the Proms which is also going to be broadcasted on Saturday, 12 September, at 8pm from the Royal Albert Hall. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, both events will take place without spectators present at the respective venues.
The BBC Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Guest Conductor Dalia Stasevska makes her Last Night debut along with South-African soprano Golda Schultz in a concert without flag-waving and singing “Rule, Britannia” and “Land of Hope and Glory” at the Royal Albert Hall. It should be instead a musical feast in countless living rooms across the country and around the world. In a similar way the London Stadium will be without fans to sing along “Bubbles” when the teams step onto the lawn in front of empty seats in the ground, but the game of course will be screened on TV.
But – unlike the above mentioned debuts in the Royal Albert Hall – I fear there will be no new players, let alone stars, in the West Ham team on Saturday. The club has failed to make any notable signing so far in this transfer window, but instead has sold bright prospect Grady Diangana to West Brom.
Let’s hope that West Ham will already have got a good result when I am going to switch from football to the Royal Albert Hall to sing along when the Last Night’s second part of the programme will start.

Mit einem ungewöhnlich kritischen Tweet meldete sich West Ham’s Kapitän Mark Noble zu Wort, nachdem der Klub bekannt gegeben hatte, dass der vielversprechende Flügelspieler Grady Diangana an Aufsteiger West Bromwich Albion abgegeben wird.
Diese noch nicht dagewesene Kritik eines Führungsspielers an der Transferpolitik des West Ham-Boards wurde von der großen Mehrheit der Fans zustimmend und ebenso wütend 😡 re-tweeted und kommentiert. Vor dem Beginn der neuen Saison am kommenden Wochenende ist bei den Hammers wieder einmal Feuer am Dach!
Die gegen die Klubführung, bestehend aus David Gold, David Sullivan und Karen Brady, gerichtete #GSB out – Kampagne lodert neu auf, und das zurecht: der Transfer eines aus der eigenen Akademie gekommenen Spielers zu einem unmittelbaren Liga-Konkurrenten spricht der Bezeichnung unseres Klubs als “Academy of Football” Hohn!
Der Fanclub WHUISA kommentierte die Situation so: “Wenn sogar unser Kapitän wütend die Richtung des Klubs, die getroffenen Entscheidungen und die Führung kritisiert, muss sich etwas ändern. Unser Klub und die West Ham-Fans verdienen es besser!“ Das Problem ist nur, dass der Klub ein wenig erfolgreiches Unternehmen mit finanziellen Problemen ist, für die Fans aber viel, viel mehr bedeutet! Erwartungen und Herzblut der Fans passen mit der realen Situation seit der Übersiedlung ins Olympiastadion noch weniger zusammen als in den Jahren davor.
Den freundschaftlichen “season opener” gegen Premier League-Absteiger Bournemouth verlor West Ham am Samstag mit 3:5, was von David Hautzig auf “West Ham till I Die” mit “WEST HAM LOSE BIG. AND NOT JUST TO BOURNEMOUTH” kommentiert wurde. Vom positiven “Momentum” nach dem akzeptablen Saisonende mit Klassenerhalt und “PL-Spieler des Monats” (Michail Antonio) scheint vor dem Start der neuen Saison nur mehr wenig übrig zu sein.
Hoffen wir, dass das Versprechen des Klubs, den Erlös aus dem Abgang des 22-jährigen “wingers“ in Verstärkungen zu reinvestieren, bald erfüllt wird und die Hammers die neue Saison besser beginnen, als wir derzeit befürchten. Am kommenden Samstag kommt im ersten Pflichtspiel Newcastle Utd ins London Stadium. Anschließend warten Arsenal, Wolves und Leicester, bevor dann nach der “international break” drei besonders schwere – und interessante – Spiele gegen die Spurs, Manchester City und Liverpool folgen.

Lyrics of “Rule, Britannia” to be sung at Proms
The BBC’s new director-general yesterday reversed the ban on singing Rule, Britannia at the Last Night of the Proms (which will take place this year on September, 12th) and encouraged the nation to sing along.
On just his second day in post, BBC’s new director-general Tim Davie ordered the about-turn amid fierce criticism of the corporation over claims that the lyrics to Rule, Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory had been ditched over their associations with colonialism.
In place of a full choir, the BBC has now decided to put in place a “select group of singers” who will perform the pieces inside the Royal Albert Hall with “audiences free to sing along at home”.
More than 100 singers normally perform Rule Britannia! – but a spokesperson for the BBC Proms said the change in the arrangement this year was due to the coronavirus outbreak.
They said in a statement: “The pandemic means a different Proms this year and one of the consequences, under COVID-19 restrictions, is we are not able to bring together massed voices.”
The broadcaster will provide subtitles so viewers can join in and also plans to light up the Royal Albert Hall in red, white and blue in a further outward demonstration of its patriotic intent.

The Proms are only an online festival this year and therefore also the famous “Last Night of the Proms“ will not be staged with an audience to sing along in the Royal Albert Hall. But singing will be avoided completely when it comes to “Rule, Britannia“ and “Land of Hope and Glory“ this year.
In a much discussed decision the BBC has defied the Government by announcing that Rule, Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory would not be sung at this year’s Last Night of the Proms.

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden had warned the Corporation not to “erase history” by dropping the songs amid a row over colonialism. But the BBC instead effectively censored them by choosing to play orchestral versions, with no soloist singing the lyrics. With no audience because of coronavirus restrictions, there will be no one to sing along either.
One government source described the decision as “incredible” and Tory MPs accused the broadcaster of failing to understand the context of the songs. Champions League geht an FC Bayern, Rapid-Bierliefervertrag an Gösser!
Mein erster – und auch überhaupt der erste! – Fußballabend in der Kirche! (I.FC statt ICF 😉) Bayern München gewann ein hochklassiges Finale gegen Paris Saint-Germain, in dem beide Teams offensiv eingestellt waren und sich einen packenden Schlagabtausch lieferten, mit 1:0 (0:0).
Der FCB hat damit seine außergewöhnliche Saison mit einem Triple vollendet. Die von Hansi Flick, der erst im Herbst Niko Kovac ersetzt hatte, trainierten Bayern gewannen das Champions-League-Finale am Ende des Corona-bedingten Finalturniers im Estadio da Luz von Lissabon. Sie sicherten sich damit zum sechsten Mal die Krone im europäischen Clubfußball.
Das Goldtor, das gleichzeitig der 500. Bayern-Treffer in der Königsklasse war, erzielte Ex-PSG-Spieler Kingsley Coman (59.) per Kopf nach einer Maßflanke von Kimmich.
Kingsley Coman hat seine Karriere bei Paris Saint-Germain begonnen. Für die französischen Emporkömmlinge war sein Siegestor die ultimative Ironie. Sie haben 700 Millionen Pfund für die Zusammenstellung einer Truppe aus Superstars ausgegeben, um den Traum von der Eroberung des europäischen Kontinents zu verwirklichen. Am Ende aber wurde dieser Traum von einem Spieler zerstört, der als Achtjähriger in der Akademie von PSG begonnen hatte. Die Startelf der Bayern besteht auch nicht unbedingt nur aus Eigenbauspielern, aber sie kostete nur 99 Millionen Pfund – weniger als ein halber Neymar!
Das Spiel auf Großleinwand in der neuen ICF-Location in Wien, Lerchenfelderstraße, war echt ein Erlebnis, auch wenn ich von Haus aus kein FC Bayern-Fan bin:
Und außerdem: ich konnte gleich damit beginnen, mich beim Bier umzugewöhnen, denn beim SK Rapid wird statt dem Wiener “Ottakringer” künftig das steirische Gösser-Bier ausgeschenkt werden! (GÖSSER statt Ottakringer… siehe Foto oben!)
